Angelina Jolie is learning a hard parenting truth: Just because you buy something for your kid, that doesn’t mean they will give you unfettered access. Did you pay for their phone plan? Did you buy them a car when they turned 16? Well, good luck borrowing either! You’ll have to pry the phone and/or keys away with them kicking and screaming.
Angelina Jolie is learning that confounding reality in a bittersweet sort of way with one of her sons. The A-lister shares kids Maddox, 23, Pax, 21, Zahara, 20, Shiloh, 18, and 16-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox with ex-husband Brad Pitt, and one son is currently living in a Manhattan apartment that she bought in her 20s. As The New York Times reported, it has also become a “crash pad” for his five siblings. And though Jolie didn’t specify which son is the NYC resident, some outlets are guessing it’s Maddox, since Pax is often spotted in Los Angeles and Knox is only a teen.
Whoever it is, you would think they would let their mom — the owner of the apartment and, you know, their mother — come by whenever she wants. But the Maleficent star insists that is not the case.
“The other day I said I was going to pop by, and he was like, ‘Can you just give me a day to clean?’” she said. “I thought, ‘I appreciate that, you should clean up for your mother. But also, how bad is it?’”
I think most people can understand the urge to tidy up before having guests over, but you would think the, again, owner of the “crash pad” could “pop by” as she pleases. She has a key. She has a deed. And yet, she has to kill time? Has it gotten so bad that he really needs a day to make it presentable?
While Jolie’s son might be keeping her at bay (hopefully to actually break out the vacuum), her daughter Zahara is apparently welcoming her with open arms for events. Granted, they aren’t exactly a “pop by” situation, but they are so meaningful for the pair.
Earlier this month, the college sophomore was the keynote speaker at the Women in Training Inc. Mother-Daughter Brunch. Jolie looked exceedingly proud, watching her daughter take to the stage and follow in her philanthropic footsteps.
Hopefully, she has a similar look on her face when she is finally allowed back into the squeaky clean New York City apartment that she — say it with me! — owns.
These celebrity parents are on double duty!
