Prince George Will Inherit Not Only a Crown — But a Renowned English ‘Party Town’

As the second in line to the British throne, 11-year-old Prince George is set to inherit a lot. There’s the United Kingdom and Commonwealth, the Church of England, and of course, countless crowns and jewels. But before he is even handed a scepter, the future sovereign can expect to inherit an impressive amount of real estate.

The tween — who Prince William shares with Kate Middleton along with kids Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6 — will take over the Duchy of Cornwall when his dad takes the throne. Royal tradition dictates that the hereditary estate — which was first established by King Edward III in 1337 — is granted to the first in the line of succession, per Marie Claire.

When Prince William becomes King, his eldest will take over the Duchy of Cornwall, which includes the town of Newquay.

According to Express, the Cornish town is one of Britain’s “most renowned party towns.” In the early aughts, it was a popular choice for bachelor and bachelorette trips. Or, as the U.K. publication called them, “stag dos and hen parties.”

In more recent years, the beloved coastal town has reportedly become more of a “food haven” with an increasing number of independent restaurants and bars. In 2017, one resident and media consultant told The Independent, “Newquay has grown up.”

And so who knows where the party-town-turned-foodie-retreat will be when Prince George is also grown up and overseeing the [once?] popular destination for grooms- and brides-to-be. Will he celebrate his own stag there ahead of his possible royal wedding? Or will he go there to enjoy a laid-back evening of hors d’oeuvres and cocktails with his siblings?

The Duchy of Cornwall extends across 23 counties in England and Wales and currently makes Prince William the biggest private landowner in Britain, per Hello. This means Prince George could presumably hold that same title one day.

In 2023, the Prince of Wales reportedly made more than £23 million (nearly $30 million USD) from the rents, investments, and surplus profits generated from the portfolio. Not. Too. Shabby. And so one can assume that long before Prince George is sovereign, he will have a hefty savings account from all the communities that make up the Duchy of Cornwall. Party town included!
