A small private airplane crashed Friday morning close to the Pitt-Greenville Airport in North Carolina. The accident happened around 7:50 in the morning near where North Memorial Drive meets Belvoir Road. According to officials, two people were on the airplane when it went down, but we do not yet know if they are hurt or how badly. The Federal Aviation Administration has identified the aircraft as a Beechcraft Bonanza, which is a small airplane with one engine that has been flying since the 1940s.
Police and firefighters quickly came to help after the crash. The Greenville Police Department shared that they and the Greenville Fire & Rescue teams are working at the crash site. They had to close North Memorial Drive, and they expect the road will stay closed all day. Police are waiting for experts from the National Transportation Safety Board to arrive and look at what happened.

A person who lives nearby, Shakale Cofield, took pictures of all the emergency vehicles and shared them online. He wrote a simple message saying a plane had just crashed in Greenville near the airport. Someone who works at the Tropicana Supermarket close to where the crash happened told reporters that they saw many police cars and other emergency vehicles in the area. This worker mentioned they did not hear the crash happen or see any smoke from inside the store.
Both the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board have been told about the crash. These agencies will probably start looking into why the plane crashed. They usually check many things like the weather, the condition of the plane, and what the pilot did before deciding what caused an accident.
The Pitt-Greenville Airport is not very big but serves the eastern part of North Carolina. It sits about 85 miles to the east of Raleigh, which is the state capital. The airport handles smaller planes and some commercial flights for people traveling in and out of this part of the state.
The area around the crash site will likely remain busy with investigators and emergency workers as they try to figure out exactly what happened to make the plane crash. Local officials have not yet released the names of the people who were on the plane, as they typically wait until family members have been told about the accident first.
