Krysten Ritter loves devouring a fast-paced thriller.
“When I’m not reading scripts, a good juicy thriller is my favorite thing to read while I’m traveling,” the “Jessica Jones” star tells Page Six. “It’s why I write in this genre — the suspense just grabs you from the start and keeps you held in its web. I need that in book since I’m always on the go and my mind runs a million miles a minute.”
Ritter explains one of her goals for her new book, “Retreat,” which is on sale now, is to shock readers with the twists and turns along the way.
“I know firsthand how challenging that is to do considering I’m usually one of those readers who guesses the ending!” she adds.
And while the “Breaking Bad” actress tends to lean toward thrillers when she’s jonesing for a new book, Ritter says her taste is “all over the map.”
“I do also love both fiction and nonfiction that shapes my tastes and my mindset in important ways,” the “Bonfire” author says. “The books below are a mix of ones that have inspired me as a writer, and some that have simply inspired me as a person.”
“I grabbed this one up at an airport recently and it really had me guessing. I did not see the twist coming at all. I can usually sniff them out! But this was a fun popcorn thriller that hooked me from the minute I picked it up.”
“This is an oldie but a goodie! I sort of always believed that where you put your attention, energy flows. I first read it when I was very young and it’s a great blueprint for reminding you that your thoughts shape your reality. It helps you quickly reconnect with who you are and refocus on the power of your mindset.”
“I really loved the structure of this book, and I found it to be very imaginative and modern and brilliant. This was a book that I actually could not put down. I was walking into my kitchen to make coffee still holding it in my hands.”
“As someone who was in New York City during the early 2000s — those were amazing music scene years. I remember going to see The Strokes and Interpol and The Rapture … This book was pure candy nostalgia for me, and brought me right back to those days.”
“This is truly one of the best books I’ve ever read. I absolutely fell in love with Eleanor and still think about her and reference this book years after first picking it up. For any writer, or anyone deeply interested in character, I strongly recommend it!”
“As a huge music fan, I loved this oral history of the New York music scene. The way this book is laid out is so visceral and makes you feel like you were there.”
