Many people are talking about the upcoming elections in Kanungu District. The Woman Member of Parliament position has attracted many candidates, but there is one name that always comes to mind. Point at someone that has created and delivered value; I will point at Kansiime Honest.

She is known for empowering girls and young women in Uganda, especially those from Kanungu.
Looking at her life story, Kansiime’s is a tale of resilience. She lost her father at a tender age and was forced out of school. But with the introduction of free education, she was given a second opportunity to study. When she grew up, it dawned on her how much policies count in shaping human lives. Instead of thinking only of herself, she began assisting others, and Girls to Lead Africa was born.

With this organization, Kansiime has guided many young women into leadership. Among her famous projects is the Girl-Safe Boda project, her organisation trains motorcycle riders in Uganda on how to protect girls from abuse.
In most villages, these boda riders are the main source of transport, and by enlightening them, Kansiime has helped reduce teenage pregnancies and early marriages in Uganda.
Her work has been viewed from everywhere globally. She is an Echoing Green Finalist, a Pollination Project Fellow, and a YALI Fellow, among many other accolades.

With Kanungu people preparing to choose the next woman MP, Kansiime Honest proved in many ways that she is a compassionate leader. But of course it’s the voters to decide whom among the different contestants makes the best candidate.
Whereas she has lost elections previously, we can only wait for the voters this time to decide if they require her representation in Parliament.
End.
